The Ways in Which It Kicks your a**

9:43 PM

I went for a swim today. Coz when I scanned the pool, there was hardly anyone swimming. Which means yay! I get a lane all to myself. Whaddya know... After paying the swim fee, people start piling in. An entire Korean family invaded my lane. So I swam in the learner's lane. Which I had all to myself. Only catch - It stretched to 3/4th of the pool. Sigh.

Decided to go back and bathe. So I put on my clothes and happily wandered out. Only to have almost died there and then of pneumonia! My swimsuit was soaking up my clothes in places that should NOT appear to be soaked on an average person. So yea. There was me, traipsing along back to Huia with my crotch soaked which felt and looked like I had peed in my pants AND my chest soaked which made it look like I was lactating. Sigh No. 2.

I discovered that anyone who's everyone has already made plans to go watch Dark Knight with everyone who's anyone. So I am stranded. With no means of watching the movie which supposedly caused the death of Heath Ledger. Whyyyyyyyyy? But no sigh for this one. Coz as I write, Tuan is booking tickets. Hehehe.

Came back and vacuumed my room. It was clean....... until, I opened a box of FAB washing powder to do my laundry and tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! SNOW! Not in a OMG-Bless me-Bless me-It's snow!!! Kinda way. Rather in a NOoooOOOooooOOOOoooo-Sh*t-Sh*t-I-just vacuumed kinda way. I didn't bother to revacuum. Let's look at it this way. If water falls on my carpet, which is bound to happen considering what a klutz I am, there will be buBBles!!!! And THEN my day will be complete...... -_-

Fabulous!

You don't really have to love me today, but yet I know you do!

Worm trumps Frog

11:15 AM

The weather in Auckland has been progressively getting worse. It rains non stop. The wind blows to no end and my umbrella is taking a terrible beating for it. I have two umbrellas and both have inverted at some point. Just recently I spotted some rust on my black and white polka dotted one. Apparently, Auckland saw the worst storm of the century during the weekend. I received numerous text messages warning me to stay away from windows and to prepare for power cuts. I didn't think the storm was too bad though. It did set a huge downer on everyone but there were no smashing windows or moments of intrepid darkness in the blizzard.

That aside, education has only been getting more and more interesting on my part. Yesterday, I dissected a worm and disgustedly poked at it's slimy organs. Pretty impressive actually. Before this, I would've never stopped grimacing and wailing in utter disgust if I was made to hold worm. But in an attempt to appear literate and composed, I stifled my disgust and held the worm in my hand, even mildly squeezing and rolling it between my palms at one point to feel the chaetae on it's body. Stripping the skin layer was quite tricky. Turns out, my first dissection wasn't too good.

Hahhaah, sry!!! But then again, grossing you out was my intention....

This was my lab partner's (Celia) dissection. Her dissection put my dissecting skills to shame.....
That was an interesting lab. And apparently, there're bigger, better and juicier things to come. So stay tuned!
Psych was just as interesting. We're learning social psychology this semester. And one of the components is love and relationships which left me completely intrigued. The lecturer went on to explain all the different types of symptoms and feelings when you're in love or in a relationship. All along I thought I was this really cynical person, turns out there's more to everything. Like how there are generally two different kinds of reaction when it comes to attraction. Some people just need one major aspect to be attracted to another. One thing sets them off and they find themselves falling deeply in love. While others had to find a whole package.
And then there was the deeply engaging lecturer on explicit and implicit characteristics. Think you're not a racist person. Never have been. Never will be? Think again. You might have a racial preference without even knowing it. We're evaluating this at our psych lab today. You might want to check out this site and see if you were actually different from the person you thought you were.
Have fun! Gotta run off for lectures now.....
....in the rain! Barh....
you know you love me!

Rays of Light

4:18 AM

It's been a week since uni started and for some reason, I feel so much livelier this semester... I don't know if it's some psychological effect or if a couple of new subjects with exciting prospects was all I needed to inject some vigour into my ordinary days.

Went to watch Mamma Mia a couple of days ago with Su Lyn, Trish and JoBanana. Very recommendable. It's such a feel good movie!!! And I loved the songs from ABBA. Watching Pierce Brosnan singing? Priceless! Completely hillarious. Turns out, even James Bond has flaws of his own!

Can't write much coz in need of some much needed snooze time. But here are some pictures of our last outing. Hulu Cat. Frequented by Asians. Made famous by the most perfect bubble tea in the whole wild world. SO perfect, it makes one jelak after ample amount of thick liquid that comes in a giant glass infiltrates all the pores in your tired soul.

Why is it called Hulu Cat? Coz the place is filled with cats, all over, top down, left to right. Hulu - coz it's in the ulu region of Anzac Avenue. Tht is just a wild guess..........

Left to right : Tuan gettin all gung ho about a car mag, Hairi getting al gung ho abtTuan and Bali getting all kung pao (wth???) about his mango egg pudding drink.... TARO IS THE BEST!!!!

Azhan while playing Cho Dai Dee.......

Allan and Tuan, still gung hoing with the mag

Wasn't long before he shifted his focus on the cat. Too bad, Mr Cat wasn't too happy about being propped on some stranger's lap.......

And there's me, trying to look all sexaaaaaay..... Couldn't take a pic with Vim who was next to me coz there's this rumour (RARH ALLAN!) about us having a thing for each other...... Absolutely false la k!!!

Elsewhere.......

My room is being embellished by a spectrum of light every morning when the sun rises and every evening when the sun sets. Thanks to this glass diamond thingy that Bobbie got JoBanana and me when he went to Wellington to spend time with his family.

It hangs by my window and dangles around in the wind.

A rainbow on my ceiling

And another on my floor....

Here's wishing your days were glorified with rainbows as well! Gotta run. Updates might be infrequent from here on forth due to workload and uni assignments. Many appologies if u keep stumbling upon the same page everytime you visit.

You know you love me!

ps: Cassie, sry for not doing ur tag. I was a tad lazy to think of six of everything.......

Mission Bay

12:35 AM

We went to Mission Bay today!!! If I recall properly, Mission Bay was the talk of the town when I first arrived at Auckland. Along with Waiheke Island and Mount Eden and Devonport and perhaps Rangitoto and Rotorua, this was one of the "must visit" destinations. What was even more legendary was the Movenpick ice cream that everyone kept talking about. Movenpick's the Haagen Daz of New Zealand. Weird. I've never tasted Haagen Daz to this date.
Anyways, due to all this exaggerated hype, I was eagerly looking forward to this Aucky day trip. And I suppose it was an interesting trip. Sadly, Mission Bay is more of a go-there-eat-and-laze-around place rather than a go-there-and-look-for-adventurous-pursuits place. But, but, but....the four of us turned it into a day trip to remember.

We intended to walk there at first, but the sun wasn't out and Joanna was against it and two of us had longer legs than the other two (no prizes for guessing which category I fell into). So we ended up walking to Britomart where we got day bus passes for NZD 5.50 per person...

Who's we?
The outgoing crazy sensible RA - Trish

The Oblivious Hyperactive Mormon - Courtney

The one who makes Inappropriate faces/comments - Muah

The Ipod-er who's camera shy yet takes awesome pictures of people in their natural state of being - JoBanana

As soon as we arrived, my camera was out and clicking away. I have grown even fonder of my Nikon Coolpix eversince coming here. It's almost ancient but it's serving me so well.

With Trish on the bus. Look at my cheesy smile!! Urgh...

Courtney's all peaced out.... Couldn't take one of JoBanana coz we had arrived right after I took this one.

The four of us on the beach with Rangitoto Island behind us.

Courtney doing her victory dance after chasing the sea gulls and shooing them away. She has this thing about not being able to see any sorta bird wandering peacefully in her presence. Seriously. Sparrows. Sea gulls. Pigeons. Count on Courtney to annihilate the term "as free as a bird".

The lost wanderer. It was cold, but I have sufficient insulation to feel warm.... Pfft.

And then, we found the rock overlooking the water and all (posing) hell broke loose....

take one - high

take two - oblivion

take three - accusation

take four - angst gone wrong

take five - freedom???

There were a few hundred more takes - suicidal, apprehension, yada yada yada..... but no point wasting good written space. Heh... And then, LUNCH!!!!!

We bought fish and chips from the take away shop across the road and ate by the beach coz this is what people normally do. Turns out.. Bad idea. The birds took advantage of this to plot their revenge against Courtney. They flocked towards us, eyeing the food, hypnotized by it's smell. I think we drove them to desperation. Coz Courtney continously chased them in circles while Trish succeeded in luring them somewhat. Talk about confusion!!!!!!
And then.... one of the most traumatizing events in my life!! A sparrow flew inches past my face and grabbed a fry from my grasp. I could feel the tug!!! And it was darn freaky ok. We were all in shock for a few seconds. And I kept retorting in horror. A few people on the beach began laughing at us.... Wrath.... Courtney!!! Arghhhhhh... victim = me. Why!??? Technically, JoBanana was a victim as well coz after a while we discovered that the sparrows had eased themselves on various parts of her and her belongings. Poor JoBanana, she was covered in bird poop!!!

And then, to reward ourselves, (for what?????) we headed over to the legend itself..... Movenpick..... for ice cream. But only JoBanana and I ended up eating. And true. The ice cream was legendary.....mainly for it's sugar overload..... I elevated my insulin levels on Macadamia and Chocolate flavoured giant scoops in a honey glazed sickeningly sweet cone. While Joanna went for Walnut and chocolate in a cone..... Yum! No dinner for me....

JoBanana and me - U see la.... Two spoons and I'm hiiiiigh....

Trish and Courtney holding our ice cream cones for a picture....

And then right, I don't know how or why, they ended up fighting for Courtney's half sucked lolly..

But all was sweet. Coz the next thing we knew, they were pondering over Courtney's little book of quotes which she brought with her......

Meanwhile..... JoBanana and I continued to pig out... and still pose for the camera. Girls are indeed multi taskers. Bless us...

To burn some of it off, we went to play ball on the beach.... From volleyball to monkey to donkey (no seriously, these were Courtney- recommended games) and football and then rotate-and-catch-the-ball, we played it all.. Thanks to the Huia footie.. held by Courtney...

Some Chinese tourists stopped by and had a good laugh at us and our ball playing skills.... Only the uber cool play ball on the beach on a cold winter's evening....

The only catch was, we had to make sure the ball didn't get into the water where it was impossible to retrieve..... LOL...Hence, Jo and Trish here, running after the ball.... I am not in any of these pics coz duh, I was the one taking them...
We got on the bus half an hour later. But I must say, a day well spent. Mission Bay lived up to my expectations. I can't say that I'd feel the same way if it weren't for Trish, JoBanana and Courtney's presence though.
That's all for now folks. You know you love me!

Vocab Enlightenment

6:14 AM

Sweet as.

Wth is that? I don't understand why this is repeated every 20 seconds or so in New Zealand. It would be alright if it sounded the least bit decent. But it sounds odd. As far as I know it (....judging from the amount of it I've heard so far), sweet as can mean - sweet. Cool. Sure. Righteo. Awesome. Neat.

Of all words to choose from, they choose two words, which do not sound cool.

*Yawns* sleepy time!

You know you love me

Results are Out

4:26 AM

OMG OMG OMG so happee! I got an A for econs!! Very unexpected. I was expecting a B at the very most. Perhaps a B+. But I got an A. *Jumps for joy* My other scores weren't thaaaat bad either. A for stats, B+ for psych which I think I deserved due to all my last minute double whamy crammy sessions and a B for politics, which sucks. Coz I had like two weeks to study for it but only scraped through. Then again, two weeks does not compensate for a whole semester of slacking off so yea.... Serves me right. I know it's a bit silly that I keep putting up my grades for the whole world to see but I'm not one of those kiasu peeps who keep it a secret in fear of people finding out and plotting some uber fail proof ploy of mass destruction onto them...

Seriously, I think there was something direly wrong with me this sem. I slacked. I even astonished myself at how lightly I sometimes took things. My concentration seemingly evaporated into thin air even during "intense" study sessions. Sigh. I hereby pledge to never let this recur next semester. I don't think 6 months of doing absolutely nothing brainy after A levels is a very good idea. It transformed me into a slob.

Off to watch Love Actually now. Again. British romance. How do we grow outta it?

You know you love me!

Devonport

4:14 AM

Joanna and I took a ferry to Devonport early Thursday morning..... Thankfully, the sun was out. And the clouds weren't heavy with rain... We ended up having a splendid time. When I retire, someday, I'd like to settle in Devonport. Funny how I speak of retiring, even before making a career.

Leaving the city behind....

On the ferry

A nice horse ridden carriage.... which we didn't go on. Devonport is tiny enough to be explored by foot...

We visited all the tiny little bookshops selling 2nd hand books for cheap prices and the gift shops... Sher, I think you'd adore this place!!

Come lunch time, there were so many quaint little cafes to choose from... Prices ranged from expensive to more expensive though... We chose this one, coz Joanna was all gung-ho about eating fish and chips....

Joanna and her fish and chips.... The waiter clearly loved being in the spotlight.... hence, the "heads up" Couldn't take a picture of her without him peeking over...

Me in hot pink and my eggs benedict with salmon... Yum! It looks like a blob of cream but it is in fact eggs... I bought the scarf for $2 in Devonport itself....

After lunch, we walked over to the walk over looking the water... So serene... The perfect place to read a book on a lazy sunday afternoon...

There's something about those doves......

There's a picture of us.......
.....and me....

With the city behind us....
